April Parkview Newsletter

Yard Sale on the 20th + Liberty Ave’s Nutty Past

It’s a short and sweet newsletter this time, neighbors. Enjoy!

Time to get your thrift on!

The Yard Sale & Fundraiser is coming up on April 20th, 9am-12pm. We’ll have donated goods from the community for sale, a little bit of music to jam to, and neighbors to say hi to. We’d love to see you there!

Got some stuff in the donation pile? We’ll take it!
We’re accepting good condition, gently used items (no large furniture, please) that we can sell. Drop off your items April 17, 18, & 19 between 5-7pm at the DeKalb Memorial Park Clubhouse (353 Wilkinson Dr SE).

Interested in selling your own items at the yard sale? Get a spot for $20 (table included) and join us for a fun Saturday! Contact [email protected] to reserve your spot.

Got a few spare hours? We need volunteers
We need your help, so put on your Parkview swag (or grab some on the day) and get to know your neighbors while supporting the community. Send us an email and we’ll put you down as one standout neighbor!

Liberty Ave, by another name

Call us curious or oddball, but who can resist a little history – especially when it involves Parkview! In a recent unplanned detour into historical maps, we noticed something that looked a bit different about the neighborhood.

Source: atlmaps.org

Yes, in the early 1900s Parkview looked quite a bit different from today’s neighborhood. From the earliest records we can find (around 1930), Memorial was known as Fair Street, and there were only three streets in what would become Parkview: Howard, Warren, and… Pecan!

Yes, Pecan was the original name for Liberty Ave! It seems that sometime between 1952 and 1959 it was renamed, though our research hasn’t turned up the reason yet. Have you got the answer?

Do you know any other odds and ends about Parkview? Childhood memories, anecdotes, or old neighborhood gossip? We’d love to hear them! Send us an email and we’ll be in touch.
